The gloriously green KURUDIA collection of colourful woven baskets are a nod to Pantone’s Colour of The Year 2018: Greenery. Embrace jungalow style and bring the outside indoors - use your green striped baskets as planters for indoor cacti and succulents. Our larger designs make stylish storage baskets for everything from kindling, toiletries and jewellery to hats, gloves and scarves.
The craftswomen who make these KURUDIA woven baskets have learned the age-old art of weaving from their mothers and grandmothers, and work within a small, rural weaving cooperative. These weavers used to travel to Nairobi to sell their woven baskets in a wide range of patterns and designs, but now Crowlish keeps them busy with reliable repeat orders in our signature designs throughout the year. As demand increases, the cooperative continues to thrive and grow under the expert eye of its inspirational Chairlady, Madam Dorcas.
Weaving takes place primarily during the dry seasons, since most weavers are subsistence farmers who need an alternative means of income when crop production dwindles. To take home one of our woven baskets is to support us in empowering women: to provide for themselves and their families and to overcome barriers. Each woven basket comes with a thank you card from the cooperative who made yours.
